What You’ll Do  

As the Grants Coordinator you will support Sitar Arts Center's dynamic Development Department which aims to create financial pathways to grow and sustain Sitar's mission to offer affordable artistic, youth development, and workforce opportunities to DC children and youth. You will support the Development Department in soliciting and stewarding over $1 million in annual grants from foundation, government, and corporate funders to ensure that each year over 900 students, primarily from households with low-income, have access to highly affordable out-of-school time programs that develop critical life, learning, and social-emotional skills. Looking ahead, Sitar has significant plans for growth to serve more students with deeper opportunities across the next five years. As Grants Coordinator, you will be essential in reaching this vision.

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Development and Institutional Marketing your primary responsibility will be preparing, writing, and reporting on 20-30 annual grants mainly from local foundation and corporate foundation donors. You will also support Associate Director of Development and Institutional Marketing with grants tracking and administration of six-figure government grants from local and federal agencies. You will also play a significant role in helping to identify and cultivate new donors to the organization in alignment with our planned growth. You will work regularly with other members of the development team, under the leadership of the Senior Director of Development.

Core Responsibilities Include:  

  • Writing and preparing key grants for the organization within a developed portfolio of local foundation and corporate foundation donors. 
     
  • Supporting a healthy pipeline of new institutional donors through prospect research in areas of key organizational or programmatic support that align with Sitar’s strategic efforts. 
     
  • Monitoring and coordinating the administration of post-award grants to ensure that budgeting and administrative policies, procedures, and grant-maker requirements are being followed. 
     
  • Maintaining development database (Bloomerang) and systems for recording and tracking grant data. 
     
  • Writing turnkey project descriptions including the case for support for Sitar’s priority projects. 
     
  • Coordinating and participating in the research, writing and production of key institutional development and marketing communications as well as tracking data on outcomes of institutional marketing initiatives and preparing outcomes reports for the Board of Directors. 

What You’ll Earn  
Salary will be commensurate with experience with a range of $40,000 - $46,000.

This is an in-person position that currently has remote options available.

Who You Are  
As the Grants Coordinator, you are a highly organized, thoughtful, and creative person who loves writing and pays great attention to details. You excel at persuasive writing and research and you’re easily able to handle multiple grants and meet external deadlines.   

You are a comprehensive planner and mindful collaborator. You are deeply interested in further developing in the fundraising and grants management fields. You thrive at grant project management and have a strong passion for providing essential opportunities in the arts and creative youth development for DC children and youth.  Importantly, you are a mobilizer and highly comfortable working independently to achieve great work.  

Key Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or other equivalent experience 
  • 1-2 years' experience in grants writing or other transferable experience 
  • Experience in grants management and administration including grant budget tracking 
  • Experience working in non-profit industry and in fundraising  

Preferred Qualifications and Experience  

  • Experience working at community-based nonprofits 
  • Experience working in the DC funding community  
  • Experience working in databases (Bloomerang, Salesforce, DataArts) 
  • Bilingual – Spanish and English speaking and writing ability  

Requirements  

  • Background check, TB test, and COVID-19 vaccination
  • Ability to work in person, afternoons and evenings, and some Saturdays
