Appalachian Chamber Music Festival seeks Festival Manager
April through August 2022
Up to $7,500 based on experience
Snapshot: Join a new, exciting music festival with world-class internationally performing musicians and composers. This is the second annual festival that follows an acclaimed 2021 inaugural season. The festival manager will primarily work remotely, but day trips may be required to the area during planning and organization of the festival. The manager will need to be full-time at the Festival August 15-8 in Harpers Ferry, WV (lodging provided). This year fourteen concerts are scheduled, chamber workshops for both students and adults, and partnerships at institutions such as Shepherd University. Compensation: $7,500, depending on experience. Housing during the festival, and reimbursement for necessary travel throughout the term of the agreement will be provided.
Festival manager: The artistic director and president, Katie Tertell, resides in the UK and returns to the US in the summer. Although the festival manager will coordinate with the Artistic Director, they will also be expected to act independently. This is a contract position and will be reported to the IRS on a Form 1099—the festival manager is responsible for paying all taxes. Housing during the festival, and reimbursement for necessary travel throughout the term of the agreement, will be provided.
Work location and time commitment: As the Festival nears, the level of involvement is expected to increase. The schedule below reflects the full contract based on experience. Most of the work is remote except as noted below.
● April to June, (remote, with one or two exceptions)
● Mid-July through mid-August, (remote, some local travel to Harpers Ferry).
● August 15-28 festival. (On-site.) Lodging will be provided with festival musicians/volunteers in historic Harpers Ferry.
Duties:
● Create and execute marketing materials and posts for social media with existing photos, videos and content from ACMF 2021 (including review, editing and creation materials to be used in digital promotion Facebook, Instagram and YouTube accounts)
● Creating and manage listings for concerts/events, including on Eventbrite
● Manage mailing list and e-mail correspondence
● Take calls and general queries about the Festival
● Edit and prepare materials related to Festival programming, including artist welcome packets and programs
● Manage festival preparation, scheduling and execution.
● Source and manage a volunteer coordinator for stage managing etc at each venue
● Research and contact new sponsor and media contacts /follow-up with existing media and sponsors
● Identify an approach for reaching new potential donors, sponsors and grant opportunities.
● Review email and other communications, recommend action and send responses
● Organize festival electronic files
● Update website and/or work with website designer to keep up-to-date
● Based on their professional judgment, the festival manager or the President may recommend changes, additions or deletions to tasks listed above.
Skills:
● Knowledge and love for performing arts related to classical music programming
● Strong communication skills
● Attention to detail
● Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
● Anticipate needs and make appropriate recommendations to changes in tasks
● Familiarity with social media and promotion, including marketing skills
● Front-of-stage experience desirable
● Graphic design/website experience desirable
