Center for the Arts Hospitality Assistant Job Description
Purpose
The Hospitality Assistants for the Center for the Arts are to be welcoming, approachable and available to all visiting artists and companies. The focus of this team is to support each performance and residency in the areas of onsite event management, hospitality/catering setup, logistics, travel, and educational activities.
Position Details
This position is an event-based role with 5-10 hour shifts offered per performance. Show responsibilities are predominantly on weekends, though some weekday work will be available throughout the semester. Hours will be claimed by you based on your availability and the performance/event schedules in place at the beginning of the semester. There are no minimum hours per week required, but you are expected to work the full time of the shift for which you sign up.
This position will help:
- Greet and welcome artists and provide introduction to George Mason University
- Set up catering and hospitality, replenishing throughout the rehearsal and performance
- Monitor rehearsals and performances, serving as a resource for visiting artist needs
- Assist with the procurement of Artists’ rider requirements prior to each performance such asshopping for hospitality needs and picking up meals
- Drive University vehicles to transport artists between locations (airports, hotels, masterclassdestinations, etc).
- Assist Programming Team with administrative and venue-based tasks
- Participate in special projects and educational efforts to expand CFA's impact
Position Requirements
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and under pressure.
- Must be able to work with artists and company managers in sensitive situations and maintain warmth and confidentiality at all times.
- Possesses excellent verbal communication skills as well as the ability to communicate with extreme diplomacy, professionalism, and graciousness.
- Demonstrates resilience and ability to handle occasionally long hours and a fast-paced work environment with a positive attitude.
- Must have a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, especially when interacting with a variety of artists from all over the world.
- Must have a personal means of traveling to and from George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus
- Strong teamwork mindset and can-do attitude
- Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry 20lbs for short distances.
- Must hold a US driver’s license that has been valid for at least 2 years and have a clean driving record, with no more than two at-fault accidents/moving violations or no violations for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs/reckless driving in the past two years*
