2022, Arts Management, MA
What’s your program and year of study?
I’m a current MA in Arts Management with a Performing Arts Focus. I am part of the accelerated MA program, which I started in the fall of 2020.
I have a BA in Theater with a performance focus, and a Minor in AMGT
What inspired you to pursue graduate studies at Mason?
I had a lot of existing credits with the undergraduate minor and am fascinated with the administrative part of performing arts.
What is your favorite activity or responsibility as part of your graduate studies?
I thoroughly enjoyed my marketing internship through the Center for the Arts and the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Spring 2021. The internship was remote, but the people were delightful and it led to a job at CFA’s ticket office!
What’s the best class you’ve taken so far?
I’ve genuinely enjoyed Fundraising and Development. The structure, class guest-lectures, and productive assignments particularly stood out.
Any advice for prospective students?
-Enjoy reading and writing, stay involved in what goes on in arts world and world in genral, they all affect each other.
-Arlington campus is really beautiful! Go see it even if classes are still online.
-Take advantage of free performances!
Did you have any experiences working abroad?
Over the summer I had the opportunity to travel to Germany and intern in a Berlin variety theater that programmed everything from drag shows to opera singers. I worked in marketing and public relations, and was able to observe new plays and rehearsals, as well as represent the theater at festivals and derby races. I had no idea what I was getting into! This was my first time traveling alone, but it was a great experience. It helped to be open-minded and go with the flow, which will take you so many places. If you have the opportunity to travel or work abroad, go for it!
